Asia’s biggest data centre is set to open at sawantwadi in Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg district.
According to state government sources, the centre costing Rs 5,000 crore will be set up by a private company (streamcloud) belonging to the Streamcast group.The data centre will be linked with another one in Malta.

A data centre centralises an organisations IT operations and equipment, as well as where it stores, manages, and disseminates its data.

“Both data centres will be connected by an undersea cable,”  Maharashtra’s Tourism Minister Jaykumar Rawal told reporters at an event where Malta’s Tourism and Cultural Minister Konrad Mizzi was also present.
According to sources, the data centre will spread over 12 acres in Sawantwadi. The town, which lies on the Mumbai-Goa Highway, is presently known for its traditional wooden toys.

Sindhudurg district is one of the greenest districts in Maharashtra and the state government said it was keen on non-polluting industries like the data centre to come up there.
